ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

What is root canal treatment?

Root Canal Treatment is a procedure done when the tooth decay reaches the pulp (innermost layer of the tooth).

ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

What is the procedure involved in Root canal treatment?

  • Dentist will examine and determine the depth of decay with the help of X – ray, if the decay extends to pulp of the tooth then dentist will start rct by administering local anesthesia in and around the tooth.
  • Next step is removing the decay and creating access to the root canals of the tooth which is followed by cleaning and shaping the root canals and disinfecting them by irrigating solutions.
  • Later dentist will fill the root canals with a inert material and followed by restoring the tooth with a cement.
  • In the next appointment dentist will modify the tooth to receive cap or crown followed by crown cementation.

How much time is required for the procedure?

As the procedure involves multiple steps, dentist will complete the procedure in appointments. Usual appointments are as follows

  • RCT – 1-2 appointments (1 hour each)
  • Crown preparation – 1 appointment (1 hour)
  • Crown cementation – 1 appointment (20 minutes)

  • You might feel soreness around your gum area; this will last only for a few days.
