What is a dental filling?
Dental Filling is a type of treatment in which dentist will restore the tooth which was damaged by many reasons like dental decay, tooth trauma and tooth grinding.
- Dentist will examine the tooth with decay/fracture and if require will take an X-ray to assess the depth of decay/fracture. If the decay/fracture involves the 2 layers of tooth then dental filling can be done but if enters the pulp the 3rd layer then filling is not indicted.
- If required dentist will administer local anesthesia to numb the involved tooth/teeth.
- Next dentist will isolate and prepare the tooth with specifically designed hand-piece and finally place a suitable filling material into the prepared tooth. Selection of filling material depends on extent of decay, position of teeth and patient choice.
- Later dentist will check for any high points and adjust them and finally finishes and polishes the dental filling.
